The Library Ledger

Welcome to the Roseman University Library Newsletter, your guide to the wealth of resources and services available to support you in your academic journey.

Library Updates

Welcome to the first issue of the Library Ledger!

We were inspired last month by all the incredible research shared at Roseman’s 10th Annual Research Symposium. Check out some of the work in our Roseman eCommons: https://ecommons.roseman.edu/researchsymposium/2024/.

Next month, we’re excited to share tips on managing references in our upcoming EndNote vs. Zotero workshop on April 16th and to engage with the community on environmental health issues around Earth Day on April 22nd.

Consider showing us some love on April 9th for National Library Workers Day by nominating your favorite library worker for the American Library Association’s Galaxy of Stars with the hashtag #NLWD24. 😊 📚 ✨

Little Celebrations

In this section, we will highlight the little things to celebrate regarding the library. For example, this month, in Henderson, we had two of our student workers graduate from the ABSN program, and one in South Jordan. We are sad to see them go, but we look forward to hearing about their accomplishments!

Upcoming Events

Get ready for Earth Day 2025! During the month of April, students and faculty are welcome to participate in our Sustainability Bingo to earn stickers and raffle tickets for Amazon gift cards. And on the big day itself, don't forget to stop by your campus library on the 22nd for a free houseplant while supplies last!

Featured Database: PubMed

For our inaugural library newsletter, we’ll reintroduce you to the primary database for the health sciences. PubMed has a wide variety of both standard and advanced search features that make it simultaneously easy to use for novice searchers looking for a basic search experience and full of powerful advanced features fully adaptable to the needs of experienced researchers.

While PubMed is freely available from the government, Roseman users should use a link from our own LibGuide:

The last part of the link is important because it ties PubMed to our library. If you want a more in-depth exploration of PubMed, schedule time with your librarian or request a presentation for your class today.

"The Women" by Kristin Hannah

From master storyteller Kristin Hannah, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Nightingale and The Four Winds, comes the story of a turbulent, transformative era in America: the 1960s. The Women is that rarest of novels―at once an intimate portrait of a woman coming of age in a dangerous time and an epic tale of a nation divided by war and broken by politics, of a generation both fueled by dreams and lost on the battlefield.

“Women can be heroes, too.”

When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these unexpected words, it is a revelation. Raised on idyllic Coronado Island and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing, being a good girl. But in 1965 the world is changing, and she suddenly imagines a different choice for her life. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she impulsively joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path. As green and inexperienced as the men sent to Vietnam to fight, Frankie is overwhelmed by the chaos and destruction of war, as well as the unexpected trauma of coming home to a changed and politically divided America.

A Word From Your Library Liaison:

Dental

Connor Schwartz - Research and Learning Librarian

From citation management to performing a literature review I am here to assist you with all of your research needs. I graduated with my MLIS from San Jose State University in 2021 and have been a librarian here at Roseman since 2022. You can usually find me in the library, but on Mondays you can catch me in the Core Office in Building 11.

Medicine

Tiffany Garrett - Library Director

I’m here to help you build a library collection and services to support the new COM curriculum. I’m also able to assist with any questions about navigating the Roseman Library. We're planning to post a position for an Evidence-Based Medicine Librarian in May who will become your new, dedicated liaison.

Nursing

Nancy Crabtree - Research and Learning Librarian

I provide library instruction and research help for all Roseman students. I also support nursing faculty and staff with their research and curriculum development.
I have been at Roseman since December 2019. Prior to that, I was the Reference & Instruction Librarian and Associate Professor at Missouri Southern State University.

Pharmacy

Emily Espanol - Research and Learning Librarian

I connect pharmacy students to resources that will hopefully help for their future assignments. Roseman University Library is the foundation of my professional library career, which began in 2021 when I started working the service desk and attending grad school for my MLIS at San José State University.
